Allamah Bahrul Uloom (a.r.) was one of the renowned Shia scholars who had the fortune of being embraced by Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.).
Once, on the day of Aashura, Allamah Bahrul Uloom (a.r.) along with some students from Karbala went to receive a group of mourners (Azaadaar) who were beating their chests (Seena Zani).
Suddenly, students saw that Allamah Bahrul Uloom (a.r.) joined those who were beating their chests and mourning Imam Husain (a.s.). The students fearing that someone would harm Allamah Bahrul Uloom (a.s.) tried their best to prevent him but he continued beating his chest and mourning Imam Husain (a.s.). The students therefore encircled Allamah Bahrul Uloom (a.r.) so that none harms him.
Later when Allamah Bahrul Uloom (a.r.) was asked as to why did he join the group and uncontrollably started doing maatam, he replied:
“When I reached there I saw that Hazrat Baqiyatullah (a.t.f.s.) is present there, head uncovered and bare-footed he is mourning Imam Husain (a.s.) by beating his chest and head”.
Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) is very grief stricken when he remembers his ancestor Imam Husain (a.s.) and the martyrs of Karbala. Not only does he beat his chest and head while mourning Imam Husain (a.s.), he also recites Nauha on his oppressed ancestor. In fact Ziyaarat-e-Naahiya a Ziyaarat attributed to Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) is actually a Nauha by Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) in which he intensely wails over Imam Husain (a.s.). In this Ziyaarat while addressing Imam Husain (a.s.) he (a.t.f.s.) says:
“O my oppressed ancestor! Surely, I weep on you day and night. While mourning for you, my eyes shed blood in place of tears. A mourning based on extreme injustice meted out to you and on the untoward incident which you had to face. This mourning continues till I fear that my throat will suffocate and my soul will leave my body.”
At another place while remembering Janab Qasim (a.s.), he (a.t.f.s.) says:
Peace be upon the severed limbs. It is narrated that when Janab Qasim (a.s.) came out in the battlefield, he resembled like a full moon and was only thirteen years of age.
He (a.t.f.s.) further says:
Peace be upon the bare corpses
The army of Yazid (l.a.) was so evil that they were not contented with killing Imam Husain (a.s.) and proved that not only did they have no regard for Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and Islam , but also were devoid of basic human qualities.
The army of Yazid (l.a.) did not even spare small children and infant. By blocking water on the tents of Imam Husain (a.s.) and his children they further stooped to the depths of abasement.
While mourning Janab Ali Asghar (a.s.) Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) says:
Peace be upon the suckling infant (Ali al- Asghar). While remembering the final moments of Imam Husain (a.s.), Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) says: The enemy then surrounded you from all sides, weakened you by inflicting wounds, prevented you from taking any repose, and you had no helper remaining. You were bereaved yet patient, defending your women and children, until they caused you to fall from your horse. You fell to the ground, wounded, horses trampled you with their hooves, tyrants raised their swords against you, the sweat of death appeared on your forehead, and you continually clenched and unclenched your hands, secretly gazing upon your caravan and tents, while trapped by yourself away from your children and family.
Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) wishes that he was present in Karbala so that he could sacrifice his life for him. He (a.t.f.s.) says:
Salutations from the one, who, had he been present with you in that plain, would have shielded you from the sharpness of the swords with his body and sacrificed his last breath for you,
Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) weeps over Imam Husain (a.s.) day and night and says:
I will, therefore, lament you morning and evening, and will weep blood in place of tears, out of my anguish for you and my sorrow for all that befell you, until I meet death from the pain of the catastrophe and the choking grief.
Such is the grief of Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) on account of the oppression and atrocities perpetrated on Imam Husain (a.s.). Let us join Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) in mourning his ancestor!
We should also keep in mind that the time after mourning Imam Husain (a.s.) is that of acceptance of prayers and fulfillment of one’s needs. But before we ask our needs we should keep the following tradition of Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) in mind.
This is supported by the narration of some of the righteous people who saw Imam Zamana (a.s.) in dream while he was saying, ‘Surely I will pray for the believer who remembers the difficulties of my ancestor, Imam Husain (a.s.), and follows it with supplicating for my reappearance and assisting me (in my task).’

Imam Baqir (a.s.) said:
Ameerul Momineen (a.s.), along with two of his companions, happened to pass by Karbala and as he did so, tears filled his eyes. He said (to them), “This is the resting place of their animals; and this is where their luggage shall be laid down; and it is here that their blood shall be shed. Blessed are you O’ Earth, that the blood of the beloved shall be spilled upon you.”
