If ever the phoenix of Islam rose from the ashes of despotism and annihilation, it was in this month. Imam Husain (a.s.)’s martyrdom demolished Yezid’s empire of deviation and tyranny and upheld the banner of true Islam and justice for the coming generations.
The agony, sorrow and cries on Aashura’s each year revive all the basic values of Islam.
On the night preceding the first day of Moharram, perfrom 2-Rak’at Namaz, in each of which, after Surah al-Hamd recite Surah al-Tawheed eleven times. And on the first day observe fast. According to the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.), one who undertakes these acts of worship is like the one who has ensured his well-being for the coming year and if he were to expire in the same year, he will enter heaven. The night preceding the tenth day and the day itself should be marked by prayers and mourning since one of the greatest acts of obeying Allah (s.w.t.) is mourning for Imam Husain (a.s.) and his companions, who gave supreme sacrifices in the cause of Allah (s.w.t.) and Islam. One should constantly send salawat on Holy Prophet Mohammad (s.a.w.a.) and Aal-e- Mohammad (a.s.) and curse the enemies of Ahle Bait (a.s.) by reciting :
“ALLAAHUMMAL A’N QATALATAL HUSAIN A’LAYHIS SALAAM” and “ALLAAHUMMALA’N QATALATAAHLEYBAYTE RASOOLULLAH SALLAL LAAHO ALAIHE WA AALEHI”.
Further details of ‘Aamaals’ can be had in “Mafatihul Jinaan” and “Tohfatul Awaam”.
